Re: Ninjerk's dojo

I went to my second full figure open session on 5/6, but I won't have much to share until I figure out how to get my crappy phone to talk to my computer again. A couple of anatomy paintovers and a Proko-Loomis sketch that got sidetracked by me plumbing the depth of my memory. Two realities I'm going...

You seem to be making some of your dark areas by painting a darker tone of the hue of the object. In doing so, I believe you are not setting your dark tones correctly, and by comparison this will interfere with the rest of the tones in your drawings and paintings. Do a grayscale still-life and try t...

Your construction looks great on the overall figure. You might consider doing some head studies next and trying to smooth your rendering out.

IMO, do some drapery studies like the following: http://vilastonape.com/rep-10.html http://vilastonape.com/images/representational/10-Colorful%20Folds.JPG Ignore the colors here because they'll probably just be confusing--this is a limited palette set of NuPastels. Try doing some grayscale studies o...

Man I love the speed paintings anims. How are you doing that? I also live your life studies! In the last speedpaint the green in the distance looks way too saturated--@Rhosk commented in another person's sketchbook about the same thing. Photoshop has a motion mode where you can manipulate when you ...

Re: raven´s sketchbook

Loosen up your drawing and don't pick up the stylus as much, IMO. Also, if you're doing studies shorter than maybe 3 or 4 minutes you probably shouldn't even be using an eraser. Try to think about why you're doing such a short study and what advantage it has over a longer study with construction and...

I'm feeling so in the zone with my 1-minute gestures. I'm thinking about going to an open figure session at an atelier about an hour away on Saturday to try my hand with some charcoal gestures from a live model.

Great crit, @Rhosk! I love the ideas on display here. I suspect maybe you should do some material studies from life (e.g. the garbage bag) and just some general value studies on a live model.

I've been pretty dissatisfied with my original attempt and I've been alternating between thumbing through Bridgman and doing sketches of what I think I know about the anatomy.
