TAP Study Challenge #27: Figure Drawing

Unread postby sampetersonart » Mon Jan 08, 2018 11:43 am

Description:
The new study challenge for the next week is to draw and practice the human figure. The focus is to work on your understanding of the overall structure of the human form. Use photos you find online for references (or live models if you have access of course), and try to draw a variety of poses to help understand the forms better. These don't need to be extremely detailed as the focus is the basic forms of the figure, but use this challenge to focus on the areas you feel you're weak in. Also feel free to fit in a figure from imagination to try and apply what you've learned from the studies. The amount of figures you do for this challenge is up to you.

I recommend trying to gesture out the overall figure first, then rough in the big/major shapes of the body. Using form-lines can help break down the direction and orientation of the form as well.

Here are some helpful resources for figure drawing if you need suggestions:
Quick Poses: https://www.quickposes.com/en/gestures/timed
Deviant Art Collection: https://daposes.deviantart.com/gallery/

Rules and Guidelines:
-This a figure drawing study challenge.
-Approach it with an idea of what you'd like to focus on and learn from the study.
-Any medium is allowed.
-WIPs and finals can be posted in this thread. Try to post all your images in the same post by "editing" it if possible.
-Due before Sam's stream on Monday, January 15th.

References from Quickposes, 20 drawings in total. I added the bolder lines with a Pentel brush pen after completing the set (the thin lines were done within the 60-second time limit). I think this kind of a process makes the shapes clearer (for me at least), and it also forces me to think through each pose one more time.
