JordaOutlawArt's Journey To The Top! Kappa

Unread postby Art of Yorudan » Fri Feb 26, 2016 5:49 pm

You may have heard me say in sams stream that I dont like to keep studies, for the reason that I can just delete them when im done. This way I can focus on studying and have no attachment or feeling that the study needs to look good. Anyway I will begin a sketchbook here, I believe that I can keep the mind set, so here it is. Not much so far, but ill keep it up to date c;

Hey there buddy. Welcome aboard. Solid start. Well personally in my case I keep studies ( and even leave them unrefined) so I can check them in few weeks later, to note down what is different and also keep track down progression. Of course not everything works the same way for everyone.

more more!

also just asking because i like to know, do you do any particular excercise you have found helpful?
when in doubt, ask yourself, what would scooby do?

Nope the sculpture thing was just messing around haha. Umm form studies are a great help for learning to use value to make a form read, blending, edge control and brushwork. Basically just draw a complex shape hard or rounded and make it read. Other than that just studying things I am weak at for instance male torso's because I never draw guys, which is why I decided to join in on the torso challenge.

Color study I did today, learned so much. To make the study fun I took another direction when painting the face.

Love the colour study! I'm definitely guilty of making design changes to my studies as well, haha.
I draw a lot of dead people.

Its fun and it also challenges you to make the changes fit in the study.

Awesome sketchbook, I really love it :) Your paintings are really well rendered and clean + you have strong value control. One thing that would really push your work even further is rendering different materials. You are doing great job painting different materials in studies, but your work from imagination seems to be lacking that (for example: metal on orc painting should reflect way more environment, since it looks like it is plastic at the moment). + try playing with cold shadows/warm light colours. Keep it up, I can't wait to see more of your work :)
